Emergency Eye Clinic

Emergency eye care appointments available

Telford Opticians are delighted to offer an NHS accredited emergency eye clinic, as part of a new NHS programme which recognizes the role of specially trained optometrists as your first port of call for all eye problems.

This means that if you develop a "red eye" or other sudden eye complaint, you can have it assessed urgently in our practice instead of having to go to your GP or hospital A&E. As well as offering you greater convenience, this also helps free up GP and hospital appointments.

If you have any sudden onset eye condition such as:

  • Red eyes
  • Pain or discomfort in your eyes or around your eye area,
  • Sudden reduction in vision in one or both of your eyes,
  • Recent onset or sudden increase in flashes or floaters in one or both of your eyes,
  • Suspected foreign body in your eye.

You can contact us directly and an appointment will be offered to you within 48 hours. Your eyes will be assessed, and where appropriate, treated at no cost to you under the NHS. If your condition is more serious we will arrange a referral to the hospital.

For chemical injuries, burns or significant trauma such as a penetrating injury or lacerations to the eye or eyelid you should go to the Accident and Emergency Department at your nearest hospital immediately.

To use this service you must be registered with a GP in Northern Ireland and bring your Health & Care number to the appointment. Under the NHS you can have one emergency eye clinic appointment per year.
